What parents need to know on why screen time can be addictive

The truth is, screen time isn't inherently good or bad. It's like sugar, exercise, or letting your kids wear mismatched socks to the grocery store (yes, Karen from playgroup, I see you judging). The magic isn't in avoiding it completely – it's in how you use it.

So there you are at 3 AM, Googling "why won't my 2-year-old talk" while your perfectly verbal neighbour's kid recites Shakespeare in the sandbox. (Okay, maybe just counting to ten, but it feels like Shakespeare when your own child's vocabulary consists of "no," "mine," and an impressive array of dinosaur sounds.)

So there you are, already late for work, coffee getting cold, and suddenly you hear that voice coming out of your mouth, the one that sounds suspiciously like your own mother (or father) when she was at her wit's end. "JUST PUT ON THE SHOES!" you yell, immediately followed by that familiar sinking feeling in your stomach. Great. You've become that parent.

Welcome to potty training, folks. It's like trying to negotiate a peace treaty with a tiny dictator who has no concept of international law and whose primary weapon is their bladder.
Gejala buli bukanlah perkara baru yang kita dengar malah sudah mengakar dalam kehidupan seharian terutama para murid di sekolah.

As a parent of a young child, you might notice your little one being more energetic, distracted, or impulsive than their peers. Understanding ADHD early can make a significant difference in your child's development and success. Let's explore what ADHD looks like in young children and how you can provide the support they need to thrive.

As parents, we often worry about our kids' screen time and addiction. We've all heard stories about children demanding to watch cartoons in the middle of the night.

What is creativity? When we call a child creative, what do we actually mean? Is it because they can draw beautifully? Or because they come up with imaginative stories?

The lightbulb moment came one night when I was playing with my 5-year-old son, Umar. As we played, I noticed something amazing that has been in front of me all this while - he was telling stories.

In the age of touchscreens and tablets, we're faced with a false comparison. Digital or physical play? The answer isn't in choosing sides. It's in embracing the spectrum.

As parents, it's natural to worry about our children's future, especially their academic success. However, there's a crucial aspect of childhood that often gets overlooked: developmental milestones. Let's explore why these milestones matter and how you can support your child's growth in key areas.

Hijri is an Islamic calendar based on the lunar year. The word Hijri comes from the Arabic word Hijra which means migration. Hijri year starts on the year Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and his companions migrate to Madinah. This new activity is designed to teach kids the important events in Islamic history.

When we started, we knew well enough that gadgets can badly affect kids’ attention-span. We made all our design decisions with this important information in mind. What we don’t know is, a year after starting this journey we developed a digital activity that can help increase kids’ attention span.

When we started building StoryTime last year, we decided to focus on the iPhone first then the iPad. Our reasoning was, that more people use iPhones than iPads. How wrong we were.

How much screen time is too much? At what age you can give screen to your kids? How to have better screen time for your kids? Here are American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry recommendation:

Time moves fast on TV. In one hour the “TV World” can cover the whole day or weeks. Everything looks easier and faster. Even struggles and hardships will not take long on TV. Yet, in the real world, everything takes longer and harder. Because of that, we get bored, tired and unmotivated easily.

We often see words like "Kids-friendly" attached to different products. "This cafe is kids-friendly." "This movie is kids-friendly." "The ride at the theme park is kids friendly". But what does kids-friendly actually means?

StoryTime is a set of digital activities to explore and discover many things. And while using it, your kids will learn about emotional regulation. They might love our beautiful earth more. They might improve their focus and attention and they will learn how to think better.

All children love books. They love looking at it even before they can read. Being a book publisher, we share the same interest. So when we decided to develop an educational app for kids, we wanted it to be around books. We also wanted to bring the way kids interact with books into StoryTime.

With every activity we design and develop, we learn a lesson. For this activity, kids view the world as it is. With limited life experience, kids often perceive things as it is. And it's often different from what we thought. What seems straightforward for us might not be the same to kids.

While “ABCs” is not designed to teach kids how to read, we designed it to teach kids the sounds of each alphabet.

When kids play, they are crafting stories. We hope to bring that same experience to kids in StoryTime.

We just added a new activity to StoryTime. It's called Shapes. In Shapes, kids can play around with multiple shapes freely. Kids can move these shapes around the screen, combining them to create objects or simply exploring how they fit together.
